About Our Family

Since our journey began...we've had some changes around here! We're a family of THREE now! 

STEVE: He's 6'8 (that's one tall drink of water). He grew up in Utah, but has a soft spot in his heart for Alabama. He loves anything to do with soccer. He teaches high school English, newspaper and creative writing. He's just finished his PhD in creative writing (he's got mad writing skills...he's even writing a novel). He loves singing, music, and discovering cool new bands. He loves ice cream and pickles. His thoughts about Jamie: 

"One could believe that there’s only so many ways for one smile to light up a room. And yet, this lady finds different ways, every day for her light to shine a little brighter, and for her spirit to bring warmth to the cold parts of my day. How can you describe the one you truly love? I am in love with those things that I tease her about. The occasional awkward footstep, the uncontrollable laughter that turns to hiccups and then to more side-aching laughter, the accidental reversal of words mid-sentence. I am in love with the way she breathes when talking on the phone. This woman has a knack for the sound of vowels. But you probably want to know about her personality right? Like if she could make someone else as happy as she has made me? It’s impossible to think otherwise. Jamie is devoted to the happiness of everyone she meets. She’s easily amused and I love her for that. I love that she laughs at all my jokes and how her eyes twinkle when she listens to my stories. She listens and responds. She congratulates and she cries. She finds tears of joy in all of the most unique places. She recognizes the potential for good in every situation but gives caution where it’s due. She is safe without being psychotic; she is passionate without being patronizing. She brings a smooth rhythm to my chaotic symphony."

JAMIE: She's a geologist by day, artist by night. She grew up in Colorado, and loves the outdoors. She loves creating. She's become quite the chef since being married. She's got music skills (and a yellow piano). She loves singing in the car (and making up lyrics). Peanut butter M&M's are her weakness. Her thoughts about Steve:

"I know it’s crazy, but on our first date I knew that I was going to marry Steve.  I could tell immediately that he was someone special. I had never met anyone with a kinder heart than his.  I had never met anyone who made me laugh like he did. I had never felt so at “home” as I did when I was with him.  I knew I had found my missing piece. Now, almost 3 years later, I am more in love with this boy than I have ever been.  He lifts me up when I’m down. He brings calmness to my soul. He steadies me. He tells me I’m beautiful inside and out. He tells me I can do anything. He still gives me butterflies when he reaches out to hold my hand. He makes me feel safe.  He tells me I’m perfect in his eyes. He gives the best hugs in the whole wide world.  He makes me laugh so hard that I snort. He’s always up for an adventure. He makes me SO happy.  He is my world."

LUCY: She is the sweetest little lady around. She LOVES going new places, and is a social butterfly. She is running circles around everyone these days, and talking up a storm. She loves the alphabet, animals, dancing, ice cream and has gotten pretty dang good at melting our hearts by saying "I love you!" in her tiny, sweet voice.  She's our little snuggle bug, and the light of our lives. 

"Somewhere deep down in my heart, I knew that a sweet baby girl was missing from our family. That carried me through some dark, hard days, knowing that we would find each other someday. I would go through all the heartache and pain again in a heartbeat knowing what I know now. That sweet baby girl has stolen my heart...and I'm grateful every single day to her birth family for sharing her with us!"
